Josiah Maier of Lititz was named as the driver at 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday, by the Lancaster County Coroner's Office.

The deadly single-vehicle crash into a tree happened in the 1100 block of Kleinfeltersville Road in Clay Township at 8:36 p.m. on Aug. 22, according to a release by the Northern Lancaster County Regional Police Department.

Preliminary investigation details were released on Thursday, revealing that Maier and his co-workers and camp attendees, had just left work at Refreshing Mountain Camp when Mair hopped in his black 2008 Chevy Corvette Z6, and headed south on Kleinfeltersville Road at "high rate of speed" when he lost control of the vehicle near Sun Valley Road.

He exited the road on the left or east side, spun-out in someone's yard, struck a rock, and hit a tree with the passenger's side of his vehicle before coming to a stop, according to the police release."Preliminary estimates from investigators indicate the speed of the vehicle at the time of impact to be more than 80 MPH," police said.

The NLCRPD, the Durlach & Mt. Airy Volunteer Fire Company, Lincoln Fire Company, Warwick EMS, and the county coroner's office were called to the scene.

They arrived to find Josiah, the sole occupant of the vehicle, deceased.

A preliminary physical assessment performed by the deputy coroners revealed traumatic injuries, but his official cause and manner of death are pending.

As the crash investigation is ongoing, "there are no further details being released," the NLCRPD said.

Anyone with information is asked to call NLCRPD at (717)733-0965 or Lancaster County Crime Stoppers at (800) 322-1913.

Josiah is a 2017 graduate who attended the Coalition of Homeschoolers Across Lancaster County graduation ceremony, according to LNP

He worked as an Activities Administrator at Refreshing Mountain Retreat & Adventure Center, according to his social media.

He actually started working part-time with the adventure company in 2015, prior to graduating, and became a full-time employee in September of 2021. "My day-to-day activities range from guiding zipline tours, assisting with equipment/course maintenance and inspections," he wrote in part in his company bio. "Two of my favorite things about working here include being able to be outside almost every day, and meeting so many different people. I love talking with them, and often personally working with them through their fears and seeing them push themselves to overcome them," as stated on the Refreshing Mountain website.

He also enjoyed lifting, cooking, and spending with friends, according to the bio.

A family friend posted on Facebook about this sudden loss, writing,

"I cannot believe this is real. Josiah you were a blast to work with at camp and so full of light and laughter. You are truly going to be missed. Praying for the Maier family."

"MAIER turned 23 years of age on the day of the crash," the police said.
